How Many Watts Does a Vitamix Use? (Vitamix Wattage Test)

Cornwall Solar Company

On this page, you will find out how many watts a Vitamix draws.

There’s no doubt that Vitamix is an industry leader when it comes to blending. Its appliances give you an unrivaled mix of power and ease of use. They are popular in domestic kitchens and commercial environments. You’ll see them at your local juice bar to whip up a smoothie. Or at your favorite coffee house for a perfect frappe blend. If you’re running your Vitamix regularly, you probably want to know its power consumption, particularly if you are worried about electric usage or want to use it off-grid.

Below we will discuss and test Vitamix wattage, explain how to work it out for yourself, and calculate the total electricity required.

How Many Watts is a Vitamix?

The average Vitamix uses between 850 to 1400 watts.

The exact number depends on the size and model of your Vitamix. For example, a small personal series appliance uses a maximum of 850W while most of the larger models use a top power consumption of 1400W.

You should also be aware that this is the maximum wattage you can expect your appliance to draw. Often it will use less than this if you are using a low power setting or easy to blend ingredients. This is because the motor is not needed to work so hard in these scenarios.

How to Find Out Your Vitamix Wattage

There’s 3 ways you can work out the wattage of a Vitamix. It is often hard to find the exact wattage of your blender as Vitamix lists the motor capacity in horsepower. But you will always find the voltage and amperage ratings in the specification.

  1. Check Product Specification

The quickest way is to look at the Vitamix’s specification. The watts (W) is usually written on a sticker on the base of the appliance. If not, you can check the user manual or the manufacturer’s website for technical details.

  1. Use a Wattmeter

A wattmeter is brilliant for getting a live wattage reading and tracking total energy usage of any appliance. You can simply plug it into your Vitamix to get instant information.

I used one to test a Vitamix which gave a live reading of 1303W.

  1. Wattage Formula or Calculator

If you know the amperage and voltage of your Vitamix, which is listed in the manual, you can use this to find the maximum watts. Simply use the formula Amps x Volts = Watts. Or you can head over to the ‘Watt Calculator’ to work this out.

Vitamix Wattage Examples

Let’s take a look at specific examples of how many watts a Vitamix draws. Below is a collection of modern Vitamix with their listed power ratings.

Vitamix ModelPower Rating (Watts)
Legacy Series1400
Ascent Series1400
Professional Series1400
Personal Series850
TurboBlend Two Speed1400
Creation Series1400

As you can see, the power ratings vary between different Vitamix. So you should take the time to check your own appliance.

How Much Electricity Does a Vitamix Use?

You can use Vitamix wattage to work out how much electricity it uses. Plus this can be useful in understanding how much it costs to run your Vitamix.

A watt (W) is a measurement of power at a single point in time. A watt-hour is the total amount of electricity used in an hour. For example, a Vitamix drawing 1400W would use 1400Wh when running for an hour.

Happily, electricity bills are recorded in kilowatt-hours (kWh). A kilowatt is simply 1000 watts. So a 1400W Vitamix running for 1 hour uses 1.4kWh.

In reality, you use a Vitamix for 2 minutes a day to make a smoothie. This means a Vitamix uses a maximum of 46Wh or 0.046kWh of electricity a day. That’s 1.39kWh a month and 17kWh a year.

That’s a maximum electricity cost of $0.20 a year to run your blender for 2 minutes a day.

Using a Vitamix Off-Grid

If you’re planning to use your Vitamix in an off-grid situation like a power outage, RV, boat, truck, or similar, the information above is important. It enables you to pick the correct power products and know how long you can run.

You can either use a power inverter, portable power station, or generator to generate electricity.

To make sure everything runs smoothly you should check two things on this equipment – wattage capacity and total energy capacity.

Your power source, like an inverter, should have a wattage capacity of at least 20% more than your Vitamix. This ensures it will be able to deliver enough power as they are never 100% efficient. To run your Vitamix, you will need at least 2000W of power capacity. This ensures you have plenty of power without overworking your equipment. This requirement is reduced to 1200W for a small personal Vitamix.

Secondly, you need to ensure your energy source, like a battery, has enough energy to run the Vitamix for the required amount of time. As we already know, it will use about 46Wh electricity for each usage. This is the equivalent to 3.8Ah on a 12V battery.

How Many Watts Does a Vitamix Use Summary

I hope you now have a clear understanding of how many watts a Vitamix uses.

As you can see these are powerful appliances that can handle fruit, nuts, ice, and much more without a problem. The internal motor will use a whopping 2 horsepower when running at its peak. In reality, this translates to 1400W on the larger machines. The good news is, they work quickly so you won’t need to run your blender for long. This means you can enjoy brilliant efficiency in the kitchen.
